Our Vision and Mission

We remember being young parents and hearing the word autism for the first time when our first son was diagnosed. We were newlyweds, new to parenting, and had to learn how to be special needs parents for a condition that we knew absolutely nothing about! Now, this was back in the mid 1990s, and we were not given any resources, so had no idea where to go for help (other than watching the movie Rainman). So, we did what research we could (the internet was brand spanking new back then) and tried our best to understand our son’s experiences and adjust our family life around them. However, when our third son was also diagnosed on the spectrum, his experiences, autism characteristics, and behaviors were very different from our first son. That’s when things really got interesting!

Now, don’t get us wrong! We had many supportive family and friends at that time which were a tremendous help to us. However, we had so many questions that they couldn’t answer. We also longed for connection with people who just understood what we were going through. We needed a place where we could be tired, confused, and frustrated without judgment. We needed to know that we were not alone, and that despite the challenges we were facing, everything was going to be alright. We looked for a local support group but could not find one that fit our situation, so that inspired us to start one of our own.

We started Our TreASures and our first parent support group in 2009 and we’ve been at it ever since! When asked what we do, we simply explain that we are parents looking to connect and learn from others and connect families on a similar journey to local resources and one another. We also provide free education and tools to encourage others to participate in doing the same. So let's work together to create opportunities for productive conversations, support, and awareness around neurodiversity and inclusion!

To those parents/caregivers out there who may be feeling lost, inadequate, confused, angry or hopeless (we know...we've been there!), having someone to talk to can make all the difference in the world. Sometimes, we also need someone who gets it to remind us of the joys, triumphs and amazing experiences that also come with raising a child with special needs. That is why we are here to share our experiences, knowledge, and resources with you. But more importantly, we are here to listen to your story, be a safe place for you to share how you feel, and to give you hope and encouragement. Meet the Founders

cathy & SCOTT muro

At Our TreASures, we envision a world where acceptance, equity, and inclusion are the rule and not the exception. Where parents or caregivers raising children with special needs can find support, resources, and a sense of community within their own neighborhoods.  A place where everyone can live and work at their fullest potential and are inspired and equipped to make a positive impact in the world.

Our TreASures was founded by Scott and Cathy Muro, who as parents of neurodivergent children, are focused on supporting, empowering, and advocating for families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and related conditions in Southeast Wisconsin. Through creating support systems and providing autism and neurodiversity awareness, we hope to provide support for parents and caregivers, help neurodivergent individuals live more empowered and productive lives, and be a voice that fosters a society that is accepting of neurodiversity and inclusion.

Our TreASures, Inc.

An Autism Spectrum Support Network

Hi!  We are Scott and Cathy Muro and proud parents of 3 amazing adult neurodivergent sons. We are so blessed for the support we’ve received over the years and the friendships and relationships we've made along the way. We are also thankful for all of the resources that are now available to us and our children. But, that’s not how things started.
